Alex, I would be really surprised if you would see even one other person in the area on Thursday. The weather forecasts at this time are predicting highs below freezing at the trail head, along with snow.
I wouldn't drive anything less than 4wd up toward Whitney Portal, and if you go out in the storm, check the weather predictions closer to when you go for the amount of snow predicted. You could get your vehicle stranded up there.
