Lucky you! This is the best time of year to be on the mountain (both times I have been on Whitney was in the fall) no crowds, cool temps, early autumn color. All of the water sources will be running, except the switchback spring most likely will be down to a trickle. Low temps can vary; the more experienced can offer up more details ( I was perfectly comfortable using a 20 degree bag and a bivy)
