I’ve always used the standard route via McMurry Meadows. It took at least an hour, and maybe an hour and a half, from 395 to the trailhead. Take your time, and your Subaru should be fine. If you hurry, you could do all sorts of damage.
The actual trailhead is up a dirt road that goes 100 yards or so northwest (away from the stream).
