Which route did you take to the Red Lake trailhead? The standard route via McMurry Meadows, or the alternate (questionable) route via Fuller Road? Both are documented here:

I'll be doing this hike in a few weeks, driving a 2006 Subaru Outback which theoretically has 8.4 inches of ground clearance. After reading everything I can about getting there, I'm still unsure what route is best to reach the trailhead from the highway. They all sound bad.
