As a side issue, that sign to Whitney Portal is a problem. Seems like it should be on the same panel as the Crabtree R.S. sign, but pointing the opposite direction.
I am putting the finishing touches on a joint letter to SEKI and the Inyo County Sheriff's Department, urging that the sign be fixed or replaced. To SEKI because they own the property, and to Inyo because that is where the missing person report is filed.
The problem has been fixed. Three trails intersect there, and--many decades ago--SEKI had tried to make two signs fill the bill. Didn't work. My letters last September elicited a polite but non-committal reply from the SEKI Superintendent, so I figured she was just blowing me off. Not so!
Yesterday there were
four beautiful signs in place of the old confusing two, and they are very clear and accurate. I am almost positive they weren't up four weeks ago.
