Actually, I think you may have combined two of the requirements for the Whitney Trail.
Everyone is issued a Wag Bag. A wag bag is used to carry human waste out of the wilderness. And it is mandatory.
If you are going to do an overnight trip on the Whitney Trail, you must have a certified bear proof cannister.
If you are doing a day trip, you can carry the food as you see fit (but keep it on your person). You must have a wag bag either way.
