Check into this lightweight bivy:
http://sectionhiker.com/mountain-laurel-designs-superlight-bivy-bag/I have one and have used it in rain, sleet, snow, and just plain cold nights. (under a tarp shelter mostly) Your bag will stay dry. You will find that on nights you are sure will be precip free you can forgo the tent.
