We are planning to hike to LonePine and return back during July 4th, so just want to know whether the trial (up to LonePine) is clear that we can make the trip with just hiking shoes and poles.

Also, how early do we need to be there in getting a parking spot? Or will it be pretty much free to get a parking spot? We have done a lot of local hikes but our first time to LonePine.
