I am planning to hike the standard Mt Whitney trail on June 2nd. Has anyone hiked it very recently? What are the conditions like? We will bring ice axes and crampons. Should we bring snow shoes as well? Also, should we take the chutes instead of the switchbacks? Thanks in advance!

You might want to look at the http://www.mountwhitneyforum.com/

Doug Sr. just posted an update on the Mt. Whitney Trail yesterday.

The switchbacks are completely buried, so you need to take the chute (the slope west of the switchbacks). No snow shoes.

No one can say yes/no on snowshoes unless they have a magical way of knowing the exact conditions that you will have on that day and that time of day. Snowshoes are very handy in soft snow where you are post-holing and just unnecessary weight on firm snow. Have a great journey.
