When I plug into my weight spreadsheet my regular hiking stuff, backpacking stuff, multi day food (doubled for dog) and climbing gear man is it totally scary. Climbing gear: 70M rope, metal snow pickets, slings, ice screws, some cams, etc.

I got my dog a backpack, but after goofing around the Portal for an hour (while the snow was turning into slush) with the rope, it looked too sketchy so I gave up, the dog went "naked" and climbing stuff went back into the car.

Mountaineers must run marathons with special 300 lbs training backpacks....

I'm not sure I can picture going on a rock-climbing trip and taking a dog.

I was just going to use the ropes for safety on class 1 stuff but with exposure. So on the Mountaineering Route
in the snow, the "Easy Walkoff" Traverse. You could build anchors on each end of the rope and then
walk the traverse. Or later on in the season, the Ebersbacher Ledges. The ledges are pretty close
so it is not so bad.
