These pictures provided by Paul W. from a hike by his father and brother, summer 1964.

The Old Trail trail head -- at the top of the paved road loop beyond the Whitney Portal Store.

Very cool. Especially the "Register Here" sign!

Curious about the mileage for Trail Crest and Whitney Pass both listed as 8 miles. I know the old Whitney Pass was at least 3/4 mile on the other side of Discovery Pinnacle at the top of the old trail going up from Consultation lake. You can still see remnants of the trail on Google Earth.

Look at the air quality over Owen's Valley from the summit picture!

As a matter of fact, notice the air quality in all of the photos!

I know that you might not be able to see the plaque up close, but the elevation on the plaque reads, "14,496.811."
