We are hiking the main trail this Friday 8/18 and I'm switch from my old large Pur hiker filter (Pur was purchased by Katadyn) to the smaller MSR TrailShot. Intake tube on MSR TrailShot is much shorter.

I understand last water available is at switchback 23. Does the water pool there for pumping, or does the water need to be first collected into a container "dirty bottle" and pumped from the dirty bottle into a clean bottle?

If anyone has used the MSR Trail Shot on the Whitney Main trail, I'd love to hear how it worked out. Thank you in advance!

Slightly off topic, but I used a dirty bladder - Sawyer Mini - Nalgene bottle - steripen combo. Worked well for me.
