Can anyone help me with directions to the Old Trail to avoid water crossings that I've been hearing about? Thanks, Veda

I think this thread will have what you need, including some helpful pictures to get you to the starting point:

Are there any updates on the state of those water crossings? Planning on bringing some lightweight water shoes and sticking to the main trail. Is this inadvisable?

3rd reply in that thread by Steve C (#15664) has coordinates and a + marking the spot.

36.585959,-118.241875 Taken from the gmap4 map coordinates.

Understand, though, that GPS units are quite unreliable at Whitney Portal due to the high mountain ridges all around. It's easier to find if you read through that thread, and just walk the road past the store about 50 yards until you see that HUGE (house-sized) rock.
