We are hiking from Cottonwood Lakes to Whitney Portal July 16 to 21. Reports of snow and creek crossing conditions would be greatly appreciated. Crampons and ice axe necessary? Thanks!

I hiked from the Cottonwood Lakes trailhead at Horseshoe Meadows up to New Army Pass this weekend. Trip details and pictures are at: http://www.whitneyzone.com/wz/ubbthreads.php/topics/50336/all/Mount_LangleyNote: I didn't make it to the very top of NAP (plan was to hike to Mt Langley), turned around at the final switchback because it is completely snow covered from then on, and there's still a large cornice on the crest. I saw another set of footprints way to the left of the switchbacks, but that route looks quite steep and exposed and I wasn't ready to try that given my lack of experience with crampons/iceax and the fact that I was travelling solo.

Jelger, We will be attempting NAP from Cottonwood Lakes a couple weeks after you. Any intel you can provide us on your route would be greatly appreciated.
