Many of you if you are old enough can remember when Mirror Lake in Yosemite was actually a lake instead of a filled in gravel pit.Back in 1975 we were camping with our church youth group in Yosemite. We all took a hike up to Mirror Lake. Then you could actually swim in it. A couple of guys swan across to the other side and were jumping off a rock into the lake. One big tall 6"6" kind of geeky non-athletic type starts to swim across dog paddle style since he really couldn't swim. The lake is just melted snow and VERY COLD.The guy gets about 50 yards away from the shore and starts yelling that he is frozen and can't move. He then yells he is drowning. I look over and see him struggle to keep his head above water, dog paddling. I run into the lake and keep running until I will have to dive in and swim to get to him. I am 25 yards from the shore still running with the lake only up to my thighs. Suddenly I stop remembering Kimmon is 6'6" and I yell at the top of my lungs "Kimmon stand up!!!"
Kimmon puts his legs down and the water only came up to his chest.
While Mirror Lake was a lake it wasn't very deep.Kimmon almost drowned when all he had to do was stand up. We didn't think it was funny until years later when we were re-telling the story. Then all of a sudden we realized how ridiculus it was for a 6'6'' guy dog paddling across a shallow lake almost drowning until someone yelled "Kimmon Stand Up !!!"
