Interesting. From the audio, it sounds like they camped somewhere below outpost camp. Is that typical in the winter?

Seems like a long haul to do the summit from there in the winter.

Of course, I haven't done any winter backpacking... yet.

I'll probably start with something simpler than Whitney. smile

From the looks of the video, they got a late start in Lone Pine, made even later by their stopping to put on chains, and maybe to walk up the last section of the road.

Then hiking all that distance in snowshoes slowed their progress, too. If they were really going to make it all the way, they would have needed to camp two nights, with the second at Trail Camp, (and maybe a third there, as well.)
