Looking to do Whitney in early March. Anyone have any updates of current conditions?

In early March, Mt Whitney is a snow climb. Pretty much anyone climbing Whitney will have full-on winter skills, or hire a guiding service like Kurt Wedberg's Sierra Mountaineering International.

If you are a winter climber, then following the Mountaineers Route is where you will find the action.

There is a Current Conditions thread at the top of this "General Discussion" forum, and you can check there for the most recent information we have.

Hey Julie,

I plan on being there from Mar 5-10 with my climbing partner. Our tentative plan is the mountaineer's route. Steve has commented that it seems a bit drier (relatively) than expected, but there was just a recent major snowfall last weekend. You can see all the new snowpack on the webcam.

I'm keeping an eye on the NOAA website, and the eastern sierra avalanche center for their weather/condition reports. I'm hoping for minimal snowfall in Feb, and freezing temperatures in March to keep everything in place smile

In anycase, I'll be going with snowshoes, mountaineering gear, and my radio tuned to NOAA's weather channel.
