Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Mt. Abbot NE Couloir conditions?

Hello,

I am interested in Mt. Abbot via the NE Couloir. Any info on the snow conditions from Mills Lake to the Summit? I'm hoping to leave my crampons and ice axe home.

I did it years ago without the ice equipment, but there was quite a snow field to climb. We were able to kick steps until we got to dry rock.

Biggest problem was trying to ascend the wrong place, had to descend and make a new approach. We were too far south on the first attempt, if I recall correctly.

It isn't that long a hike. You could take the tools just in case.
