Condolences To the PCT Hikers who missed the morning sunrise on top of Mt Whitney......
As I was hiking from Lower Crabtree Meadows (8 day pack trip...Kern River loop again) this past weekend, I ran into a significant number of PCT hikers along the way desperately trying to make it to the top of Mt Whitney to witness the 2014 Summer Solstice.
When I awoke on June 21 at the entrance to the canyon that leads up to New Army Pass, I was sadden to see high lenticular clouds dispersing the morning light.
