Cathy and I enjoyed a nice hike to 6th lake Saturday, went part way up the chute, soft snow but didn't like the wall of snow at the top to go over. Spring conditions postholing.. As we were walking out of the chute area we heard a rock fall it hit 3 times up above and my eyes are looking up the wall darting back and forth saying to myself where is it where is it but never saw it and it stayed up above. Love that area, beautiful scenery.. mark pictures hereI wanna go up this this summer, its between Army and shortcut. Thanks Bob R for mentioning this last year.. Army Pass 6th lake Shortcut to Langley

Hi Mark, Thanks for the trip report. I'm thinking about attempting Langley via Lake #6 in June (11th or 12th) so am very interested in the trail conditions. I think Bob R called the area between Army Pass and the "short cut" Navy Pass. I ask Bob if there was a use trail up Navy Pass, and how he felt it compared to the chute west of Lake #6, but so far he has not replied. Do you have any thoughts on this? Thanks, John

John, when I was up there last summer I saw a kinda S shape maybe caused by rain and snow melt(see it towards the right) this was taken last Oct.26th. I'll know more this summer.

Thanks Mark, Of course when you get there it never looks quite the same as the picture . It looks to me that there might be a way via the rocks just to the right of the center of your picture (slightly right of the "bump" on top), finishing up the scree to the right of the bump. Of course I have no idea as to the scale, so perhaps not. Is this the "S" you were thinking of? I will most likely try the lake 6 route (provided snow is gone). Based on your flickr pictures it seems you favor the right side of the chute. Would this be correct? One of your colleagues went to the left, and looked to be in a bit of a precarious position. IMG_6734 from 9-14-2013. Guess she made it without problem, but perhaps more exposure on the left side? Thanks again, John

I have no idea if this is what Mark is talking about, but this is the 's' I see:

Hi 63, I bet you got an "A" in penmanship Not sure why, but I did not see that. I might still prefer the rocks. Hard to tell without being there. I hate one step up, 3/4 step back. So, Mark, which "S" were you referring to? Either of these? or perhaps a different one altogether? Here, I drew my "S" prettier.

Mark, on the "Lake 6 shortcut" do you stay to the right of the chute?
Also there is a more narrow chute to the left. Have you tried it?
When do you plan to go back?
I am heading up the week of June 9th and plan on hiking Langley via Lake 6 on the 13th, but understand that there could still be snow blocking the way. In that case will likely go via "old Army Pass" as I did last year, or possibly try Navy pass. As you say hard to tell until you get there.
Thanks for all the G2
John

John. I go straight up the right side its steeper and more fun, the others start on the right and move over to the left just above where Frank is, they say its easier. Coming down I have done both sides take your pick.. I'll be going back up in a month, need to do Whitney first.. mark

Hi Mark,
Just wondering if you have been back up to lake 6, and if so, could you comment on how much snow is in the chute?
My dates slipped one week, so I am now expecting to head up to lake 6/Langley on the 20th or 21st.
Thanks,
John
