The road is open to Whitney Portal.
Walter R emailed and reported that on Saturday, Apr 13, he drove to Whitney Portal, and the road is completely open. The "Road Closed" sign is gone.
Edit, April 20: Fishmonger reported the Whitney Portal Store is open as of Friday, April 19.
Here's to another good season! Wishing Doug and his crew all the best.

Great! Now season 2013 is "officially" open. When you have the info, let us know the same for Horseshoe Meadows road.

Regarding Horseshoe Meadows Road, I talked with Inyo County people today. They are hoping to have it open by the last weekend this month (Apr 27), but it may take a few days longer.

Thank you Steve. I was checking very often the link provided 2 post before this, but I guess is not updated regularly.

> but I guess is not updated regularly. It is fun keeping this site up-to-date. Inyo staff are stretched way too thin.

Starting this morning the Inyo NF automated phone system says the Horseshoe Meadow Road is open. Speaking to a person directly confirmed that the road is open and that both campgrounds are open.

Has anyone been up to Army Pass (old) recently? Curious to know what the trail conditions are. Condisering June hike, but might go earlier if the trail is good.
Thanks,
John

The trail to Cottonwood Lakes was clear and dry today. Army Pass is still covered in steep snow, but there are snow-free alternatives. The snow on New Army Pass can be bypassed via rocks to the west. The chute north of the Fin is completely dry. Army Point and Cirque can also be climbed without snow. Even Langley can be climbed without touching snow.

Guess I'll wait a while.
