I was possibly going to be out in the area this weekend - looking to either attempt Whitney, Boundary or another peak or two in the Eastern Sierra....though the weather doesn't look too good as the weekend approaches with new snow expected higher up. Any thoughts on this? Am I being too pessimistic?

Predictions are for a weak storm with not much precip. But then Whitney can be a direct target, even in a light storm. Boundary might be hit less, but it would likely be up in the clouds regardless of the storm intensity.
Myself being a fair-weather hiker, I'd postpone a trip.

Thanks Steve, Seems like there could be a decent accumulation higher above. After turning back twice last year due to storms, postponing things may be the best.

Steve, any alternative trip suggestions for the area since Whitney doesn't seem smart weather wise this weekend?

We ended up hiking Telescope yesterday (March 30) and it was great. Hardly any snow left on the trail. Just a few little drifts on the switch backs near the top, but nothing technical. Overall a great time in Death Valley.

Overall a great time in Death Valley. Were you able to drive up to Mahogany Flats, or did you need to park near the charcoal kilns?

It is possible to drive up to Mahogany Flats but the road gets a little rough near the top. We hiked up since we were driving a car but anything with a little extra clearance should be good.

There are these amazing times called "weather windows"... Insanely beautiful on the MR this weekend. I will admit it was nice to have the entire mountain to ourselves...
