Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Current avalanche conditions

The following avalanche forecast is for today, December 24th, 2012. Although this report is for Mono County, the Inyo County portion of the Eastern Sierra Nevada is also reporting heavy snow and high hazard.

From Mammoth Mountain this morning (not my shot: we skied all weekend there but I had to work today):

The avalanches have already begun in my area (some areas received up to 5ft+ of new snow in a relatively short period of time)

Note that these were both within the boundaries of the ski resorts

especially around Tahoe. Very dependable.
