i cannot say for certain - i was between trail crest and the summit when this event occurred - and it was first graupeling (?) and then snowing back there. upon returning to the lone pine side and this photo it was all melted together.

Graupel, yes - thanks for the new word! I was just calling it soft hail. I was camping just above Guitar Lake when this occurred, and it rained, snowed and graupelled that afternoon. I knew it would be cold up there, but I wasn't expecting the "icing on the cake"!
