My first solo hike up the main trail. Weather was perfect and there were dozens of friendly hikers along the way. Can't wait to head back!

Maziman,

Wow, you did an excellent job of videoing yourself hiking Mt. Whitney. If you hadn't mentioned you were alone I would swear someone was with you shooting your hike. Congratulations on your summit (you made it look so easy) and great job on your camera work.....I'm impressed!

Please tell me, did you carry all the water you drank or did you filter water on your hike? Did you carry powdered Gatorade or liquid Gatorade? I'm trying to figure out how much weight you had in your pack. You sure didn't take much in the way of food. I like your comment about you having enough body fat that you didn't need to eat more than three bars for your entire summit and return to portal. I and my friends would be figuring out how many calories we're burning per hour times the hours it took us to summit and return to justify all the trailmix with M&M's we ate plus why we should treat ourselves to burgers and fries, beer and or wine at the Portal Store. Actually, I could probably survive about two to four weeks on my body fat as long as I had water, so I embrace my largeness.....It Might Save My Life Some Day (ha,ha).

Hope to see you on the trail someday.

LAR

Thanks for your kind words. I unfortunately carried everything I ate and drank on the trip (even though I took a water filter, too). My pack weighed around 45 lbs. and it was way too heavy for a day hike. But, I felt comfortable taking all the water and gatorade (liquid) with me. Next time I'll take half that and I'll actually use the filter to get water at trail camp on the way up and down. Hope to see you out there!
