I have heard somewhere there is a small, light air pump that can be used for inflating air matresses. I looking for something to throw in pack, as long as it is small and light. Anyone have any idea where I might find such a thing?

You're carrying one... your lungs! (Sorry, but I couldn't help it.)For light-weighters like me, adding an air pump to the load just would not be worth it.

You can always buy an Exped mattress where the pump is built-in.
Steve beat me to the lungs thingy.

Here's another nifty trick--try it out. It works very well. Take a large trash bag (which you probably already have in your pack protecting your down bag. Fill it with air just by waiving it for a few feet around you. Completely close off the opening with your hand just by gathering the opening together. Insert the opened nozzle of your mattress into the the opening of the full trash bag and hold onto the opening tightly to make sure that no air escapes around the nozzle. Bear hug your trashbag until all of the air goes into the mattress. You are essentially creating a bellows effect. For a Neo air mattress, I have to do this about two and a half times. (Obviously, as you are refilling the trash bag, tighten the nozzle on your air mattress.) It works like a charm, keeps me from getting light headed and earns whispers of "That is so MacGuyver" from onlookers.

Harvey - your link doesn't work, but I managed to find the video by searching on youtube. That's a nifty idea! It lead me to find this other solution: http://www.camp-tek.com/index.htmlIt weighs 2.3 oz with batteries, but does all the work for you :-) I have to say, my neoair is probably my favorite piece of gear - but I do hate blowing it up. The new x-lite isn't quite as bad to blow up as the original.

I use an Exped SL7 pad, with the built-in pump. It takes a little practice, but is better than carrying the extra weight of an external pump. It can also be inflated by mouth.

> especially when I'm with my wife having to blow up 2 NeoAirswimp! I admit it. I'm full of hot air but I like to save it for the Whitney Zone. And I'd rather my wife save her breath... 2.3 oz seems like a bargain.
