Your criticism of hikers who carry heavy packs is entirely unwarranted and ego-centric. What's wrong about being fit, fast and ego-centric?

MH85 I don't know who you are, except that you live in Bishop, but you know my name; perhaps we will meet someday in Wilson's Eastside Sports and have a friendly conversation. Best of luck. Cheers! One of the goals of this forum is to promote connections between our members. Mission accomplished.

Up Whitney in 4 hours and 20 minutes! Does anyone go faster? I enjoy all your posts. I relate to your ongoing self challenge to go further and faster. A teeny bit faster, and the fabled Whitney Triple becomes possible!

MW85, congratulations on your sequential summits. While not my approach to conditioning, I do appreciate those who formulate a goal and work to achieve it.
In a perhaps softer sense, I think the point Bob raises is, indeed, a good one. We all have our different approaches to climbs, hikes, skis, whatever. I enjoy carrying a moderately (or more) heavy pack, taking along some refreshment or treat for myself and/or my partners on whatever we are accomplishing that day.
But generalized statements, such as your "leave your winter gear at home" (or something along those lines), can be interpreted extremely broadly by the wider audience. Remember, there are thousands reading this board daily, and not all have the knowledge, experience, or expertise you may. Many, many more than the mutli-dozen or so who post regularly lurk on all of these forums, searching for information. You'd be amazed at some of the ideas people can generate from a simple turn of phrase.
Just something to perhaps think about.
See you in the heights,
L

I enjoy carrying a moderately (or more) heavy pack, taking along some refreshment or treat for myself and/or my partners . . . (1) "Moderate" to Laura = 50 pounds. I've never asked her what "heavy" means - not sure I want to know. I've seen her haul 65 pounds in July. For me, 30 pounds is when the cursing begins. (2) "Refreshment" and "treat" are Moose-relative as well. For bottled Scotch, refer to (1) above.

(I wasn't the doctor -- only the 'equipment specialist"....which really translates to "grunt") I would find it really hard to "voluntarily" carry that much weight again for 'fun'.
The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.

The mystery person never showed. I waited 45 minutes. Oh, well, I was never into blind dates... My wife said that you had to work, but you didn't miss much. LOL!

Yes, I was talking with a man about 20 years younger than me. Don't be shy next time.
