Mt Whitney Zone Forums The Chat Room trip to Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia

My wife and I are trying to plan our next awsome adventure. Has any body been to the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia? It looks to be the equivalent of Alaska but is Russia (Asia). I've looked online and there are a few guide companies from Europe that provide services to the area, but it is still very remote and tourism has not caught on yet (one cool reason to go).

We are interested in a trekking/backpacking trip. Companies provides guides, but you are responsible for carrying most of your stuff and gear (unless you hire porters for extra). It would be a true backpacking trip ...in the middle of no where!

A guy I met on another trip went on a fishing trip to K. Peninsula. I googled Kamchatka Peninsula and found many possible tour groups and some appear to be exclusive individual type trips. I noted a fishing trip and wonder if that was the company the guy I met took but I have no way of contacting him as we have lost touch with one another.

Consider packing some large containers of bear spray - some of the biggest bears in the world apparently live there.

I think Kamchatka bear spray is double-aught buck.
