I know this is a Mt. Whitney webpage, but I'm hoping to find out some information about Wrangell St. Elias NP if anybody has been there. I'm considering that national park for a backpacking trip this summer. I've looked on the park webpage and found some general information about the different routes (no trails in AK parks). Most of the other webpages are trying to sell guided trips instead of simple route descriptions. Also considering car camping and doing several day hikes at different locations.

Any tips or advice, webpages?

Hi rpm,

Have you seen this website: http://www.wrangellsteliaspark.com/index.html ?

It gives info on quite a few backpacking routes and has a link to purchase their guidebook. They list "Frontcountry" routes with trailheads accessible by road, and "Backcountry" routes that require a flight in.

I don't know anything about backpacking there, but I've been on climbing trips there twice. If your route doesn't require flying in, at least try to swing a flightseeing excursion before or after your trip. That's the largest mass of ice outside of the polar regions and the views of the glaciers and peaks are incredible! Almost as awe-inspiring as the views from the Mount Whitney summit ridge (there's the Whitney connection).

I found that webpage and got some good info. I'm trying to find out as much information now to see if the trip is feasible. I have not investigated any trips in Denali NP. Planning the logistics of a big trip take more time than the trip itself.
