Mt Whitney Zone Forums General Discussion Day Hike on October 14th? Anyone interested?

I was wondering if trail conditions will be better this Friday, since the warmer weather may melt "some" of the snow at the lower elevations. I'm calling today, to check on permit availability. Is there anyone that is interested? This would be my last window of opportunity to take a shot at the summit, til next Aug/Sept. I'll be leaving from the San Gabriel Valley in So Cal area. I'd also appreciate any feedback from recent day ascents. Thanks, Jean

The snow is likely to remain, mostly. The main difference from last weekend is that it will have gone through several melt-freeze cycles, so will have a bit more annoying crustiness and some icy areas where earlier hikers have packed it down.
