Trying to find out how much snow accumulation between Trail Camp and the Summit. We're planning to hike Saturday but trying to get an idea of what we may encounter. Any knowledge would be awesome. Thanks!

Agree this would be good to know - our group is headed up oct. 8th and coming back down on the 9th, so it would be great to know how bad the snow is now up near camp.

We're planning on bringing crampons, but hoping to avoid the snowshoes since we;ve got a few days of sun between now and then - are we being too risky? Last time i hiked whitney was in august, so this sounds like it could be a completely different beast!

Looking at the webcam picture, I'd estimate you will see about 6" of snow. Snow shoes probably aren't necessary.

And when you go, PLEASE bring back pictures!

Fattyfeet, my dad and I are doing it the same day, so maybe we'll see you up there. We're both about 6'1 and look exactly the same, so be sure to say hi. We're still looking at camping at Lone Pine Lake Friday night if it works out logistically and with weather. Leaving Mammoth to head to the portal now, so won't have internet access from here on out. Good luck with your hike. And thanks a bunch for the info everyone!

Good luck! We'll look for you on the trail. Group of 3 dudes, mid to late twenties - my brother and i look similar as well, 5'9, so perhaps we'll stick out.
