Anybody remember a burger joint on the 395 called Bobo's?

Was it in Big Pine????

My favorite was a Bobo burger, fries, and a chocolate shake.

Your post motivated me to finally join-up with this group. It was Bobo's Bonanza in Lone Pine. Yes, the burgers were great - just the thing right before and right after backpacking in the Sierra! I first ate there on my way to the Rae Lakes back in '69 or '70. The good news is, it's still there, sort of. It's the Bonanza and the burgers are gone but the chili verde is awesome. You'll recognize the decor which hasn't changed much.

Welcome to the board Glenn.

Now it make sense. There was a 20 year gap between my trips to Lone Pine. I'd forgotten about the "Bonanza" part of the name. I thought the current Bonanza restaurant looked familiar, but no burgers. :-(

Guess Bobo's went the way of Schaltz bakery. (did I spell that right?)

Good thing the burgers & fries at the portal store are so good. Now to get Doug & Earlene to start making chocolate shakes.

"Welcome to the board Glenn"... Why, thank you!

Do you mean Schat's Bakkery in Bishop? Did something happen to them? I always look forward to stopping there when I'm in the area.

Yes, it's good to know we can always get great burgers at the Portal. And so convenient when you're coming off the trail.

Where the Subway is now in Independence used to be the place to get shakes and malts.

Schatz used to have a location in Lone Pine, but it went away a while back. The location in Bishop is booming!!!

I do have a funny story about the one in Bishop. In the hallway on the way to the restroom, Schatz had several pictures of celebrities. I was surprised to see one of the pics was of my uncle, "Eddie Quillan". He was in a photograph with Robert Blake when he did a TV series called Hell Town.

A few years later, after Robert Blake went through the murder trial of his wife, I took a look to see the photo again and it was gone. I have no idea if they took it off the wall or if someone stole it.
