From Wagga's link:
"New York Fashion Week: N. Hoolywood scales Half Dome for fall-winter 2011"

Wagga, did you miss that typo? ...Oh, wait! "N.Hoolywood" is the designer's brand name. With a name like that, I guess he can design weird stuff.

Those are funny costumes:

Hey, don't laugh. I represented this fashion well back in 1979 when I thru hiked the AT.
I had gotten into Vermont and parts of the trail were becoming quite quagmireish. Sometimes my boot heel would brush my calf, leaving a nice smudge of mud. At the end of the day it was a real pain to clean this stuff off before getting into the sleeping bag. My mom by mistake, had sent me long ski socks in my last supply box. They went well up to the knee and remedied the muddy calf condition, but looked so stupid with a pair of shorts.
I arrived in the fine college town of Hanover, NH and was soon roaming the streets enjoying all the shops. Passed by a ski shop with a mannequin in the window wearing knickers and ski socks. Figured if I was going to look like a dork, may as well have a bit of style about it. Bought one wool and one corduroy pair. Wore them all the way to the end of the trip. My summit photo on Katahdin shows me garbed in knickers. This outfit is actually very functional with a pair of gaiters.

On my next Whitney trip I'll be rocking one of these.

Hmmmm . . . each to his own, John, but I'm really glad you're not planning this particular fashion free-for-all next week with me in Death Valley.

Knickers are a lot more common, even now, in the Alps and in Europe than over here in the more fashion-conscious USA.

If future generations are to remember us with gratitude rather than contempt, we must leave them more than the miracle of technology. We must leave them a glimpse of the world as it was in the beginning, not just after we got through with it.

In case someone comes down on your case; I being an old frog (aka-NAVY SEAL) nobody says too much about what I wear, even if I cared. I love my kilts! For banging around the house, honey-do's, I wear a UTILIKILTS ; when hiking or whatever, my favorate is a SPORTKILT- Hiking Kilt ; it is the BEST!

Jeez, first glacier glasses go steampunk, then wooden ice axes suddenly become "collectible", now this! I have a closet full of this stuff (well, the originals), some I have literally been wearing since I bought it used in the 60's, just because it was so not in fashion. What do I do now: finally start buying goretex and lycra, I guess. Gaston Rebuffat is smiling
