What do people think about opening up a topic for gear trades, gear for sale or screaming deals (like REI's deal of the day) that you'd like to share with other camping/hiking/climbing folks?

So... do I hear a consensus that we should try a forum?

I have a 3/4 length mountain hardwear sleeping pad - backcountry 50 Colors: blue & black Condition: near new Smells: none Price: $30 or will trade for a big butted-box of clif bloks - black cherry w/ caffine (whew those things are freakin insane! must have more......) light in weight, high in R value, high in backcountry luxury. reason I'm getting rid of it: big in bulk and I have 3 thermarests. I'd sell it to mouse, but her tiny little feet would dangle off of it and she gets grumpy when she's cold. read reviews about it here

I know, I know, I feel your pain.
My Hub had an strange attack yesterday, turned red in the face & started jumping up and down - I thought he had inhaled a bit o spit down the wrong tube, but then I heard him sputter something about "too much gear, can't get in my own closet" I'm sure I heard him wrong. So I patted him on the back a few times to clear his breathing path and fixed him a scotch on the rocks.
too much gear - is there such a thing?

Lessee....1,2,3, 4 closets (two of them double wide) and I occupy 3 of them!....It's all about beeing territorial (and this doesn't count the pile of gear that has migrated to the staging area formerly known as living room) PS due to the heads up on the REI sale, I bought a new fuzzy jacket (carole ought to bee making a commission) B

Tip of the day: BING. com
It's a microsoft search engine that has actually contracted with a number of outdoor gear sites (Altrec, Moosejaw, EMS, to name a few) to offer anywhere from 5-15% further discount on stuff you find through them.
For example, I did a search on "Black Diamond Ice Tools" yesterday and came up with a sale that EMS is having right now. Because I linked to it through the bing.com site, I got another 13% (or so) off the price of the tools. Original price around $230/tool, on sale for $184/tool. I will end up paying about $160/tool after I get the refund.
You pay up front, and then have to wait 60 days for the refund to "mature" (which can be a pain, but you do get the money back), I guess they are figuring that if you return the item it will be within that time frame. So in the new year, I'll be able to get a check back for about $50 as a refund for the tools.
It's at least a good place to start to find some good prices on gear, then a lot of other sites (backcountry) will do price matching. Good stuff.

Great tip. Thanks Laura. When I can't get out to hike I seem to want to buy stuff all the more. It is like going into a golf store on a rainy or windy day and all I want to do is BUY SOMETHING. ANYTHING just buy SOMETHING. Do I have a problem?

Women's 9.5 Euro 41, UK 7.5 New in Box La Sportiva Trango Trek GTX Light gray/black Got for $45+, they sell retail for $119. They sent the wrong size, so I called them and they don't have my size. It was such a good deal, I'd rather sell them to a fellow hiker than send them back. PM me please.
