I've been in the Sierra a lot in mid-October. You will see snow about 30% time. I've never seen enough of it for crampons, an axe or plastic boots.
If it does snow and you feel uncomfortable in it, turn around. No matter what happens, you will have a great experience.
Some of my favorite trips up the MMWT went no further than Trail Camp.
