A really basic question: we know the date we want to start a hike at Mt Whitney, and we want to then continue north via the John Muir. But we do not know what our pace will be. Do we just need a permit to get onto Mt Whitney trail, or do we need a permit to continue north too? if we need it to continue, do we really need to know what campsite we will stay in each and every night for two weeks?
