I hiked this route on 7/13. I safely crossed it with microspikes however there were many people crossing without spikes due to the snow being slushy. Many people are taking the creek drainage south of the main trail because it is so direct and doesn't have any steep snowy slopes.

I took the main trail up and the creek drainage down, both of which worked fine. However if I were to do it again I would take the creek drainage both up and down because it is such a direct route and a well-beaten trail in the snow. Microspikes are helpful for the creek drainage but not necessary.
