Thanks, Steve!

It's a BMW X3. It gives me the impression of having higher clearance than it really does. That road is a little rough but normally shouldn't be a problem. The rock I misjudged was a loose one and it tumbled underneath the car. It struck a good blow to the transmission pan, making a big dent and breaking the position switch inside. It was pricey, but, well... I guess things happen. On a positive note, the shop in Las Vegas (which my mechanic back home located for me) seemed very competent and they showed me everything so I knew they were not doing any unnecessary work. Plus, the tow, getting parts ordered (one had to be overnighted from out of state), and the repair all happened as quickly as it possibly could have. At first I was expecting to be stranded for days!
