Congratulations! I hope it was worth the trip over from the UK! Was this your first time in the Sierras?
I agree Mt. Whitney is kind of obscure if you're not into hiking or climbing. "Tallest mountain in the USA outside Alaska" isn't very memorable.
Until a few years ago, I was vaguely aware that said mountain was somewhere in the Sierras, but I couldn't have told you what its name was.
