Since I live in Reno I know the Nevada side hikes a little better.

Mt. Rose is a pretty cool hike passes a water fall and at 10,776 feet gets some elevation and some pretty cool views, total distance is around 7 miles. Another one that I like is the Tahoe rim trail from the Mount Rose highway. Head towards Mt. Rose from Incline Village (SR 431) and there is a trail head with a building near the meadows before you reach the summit trail head coming from the lake. Once again good views of the lake and a little different foliage than the rest of the area. This one you can make as long or short as you want, just remember the second half is uphill! Both are out and back hikes.
