I think that Backguy wrote with an ironic pen in his narrative, which unfortunately often does not translate well.

Irony often comes off as arrogance, or minimization...when it never was meant to.

That being said, I can understand Booger's response to what might have seemed an inappropriate posting, though it was not meant that way.

Sleeping for hours in a bent position of a too-small space can mess up a person's back. Perhaps accounts for the back problem.

Steve, did you weigh his pack at the trailhead, or have a sense of the weight?

Backguy, you really put yourself at risk, and perhaps more important to you, put your family at risk of having to deal with a tragedy upon the mountain. You came close, particularly your ramblings in the dark.

You KNEW that you are a extraordinarily slow hiker. You could not have possibly done this as a dayhike safely the way you appear to have planned it.

I put this down to the typical thing we see, of people not understanding the mountain, their limitations, and how to protect themselves from bad things.
