The numbers posted currently on the Mt. Whitney Trail Reservation Availability page are what was available AFTER the 2009 lottery processing was completed. So if you selected the dates that were open, you are highly likely to get a permit reservation this year.

In fact, looking at those numbers, it is completely unnecessary to apply for a May permit, except for Memorial weekend. And likewise for day use and most overnights in October.
