There will more than likely be a boot track, which can be deceptively easy on the ascent, not so on the descent. Also, in the afternoon hours, when the sun drops below the crest, the boot track can get icy in a hurry (as can the trail in isolated sections). YMMV, and experience can be both a good and a bad thing in these sorts of situations.
Go as far as you feel comfortable, within your own acceptable limits. Don't fall prey to group think. Keep your eyes open and check out what's going on around you.
No matter what your summit is that day, you'll enjoy one of the prettiest drainages around.
