Over the months I've collected and (mostly) deciphered posted language short-cuts.

Every time that I've noticed an abbreviation or TLA on our site, I worry that new-comers will be put off by the seeming cliquish nature of our group. I've collected some of the most frequent, with a translation & comment.

It's pretty rough so far, so I'm inviting a select group to comment, add new lines, whatever.

As a resource for newbies, and the GUWC, I'd appreciate some help in defining CAATS.

If you'd like to help, please PM me - I'll send you the 100+ item CAAT file. Feel free to add/edit. References in [url] (pointer) format are especially welcome.

Next Sunday (11th.) I'll be running client data migration routines, so I'll have some time to organize your responses.

Does anyone understand what wagga just said? I think I need a WTPWTP - Wagga Translation Program With Twisted Protocols.

Are you sure it's not a CaT file?

If future generations are to remember us with gratitude rather than contempt, we must leave them more than the miracle of technology. We must leave them a glimpse of the world as it was in the beginning, not just after we got through with it.

I think "three letter abbreviation" is better because most TLAs are not acronyms. And then "TLA" is self-referential.

OK. I'm posting in monospace (Courier New)
UBB mangles fixed spaces, so the formatting does not look like a table. I suppose, when it's done - we'll use HTML for the final product.

How you can help:

1) Add new abbrevs.
2) Find links to illustrate.
3) Build link pointers to make the lines short & allow multiple links. Lookup the ITCZ entry for an example.
4) Vote out (or at least debate) questionable entries.
5) Find duplicates.

Remember, this is a first pass, when polished, it could be a good resource for newbies, and a reason for peeps to find & use this forum. Neither wit nor a sense of humor is discouraged.

ES Elegant Sufficiency // Taking enough, not too much. http://elegantsufficiency.typepad.com/the_elegant_sufficiency/

This is, by far, my absolute favorite.

The body betrays and the weather conspires, hopefully, not on the same day.

I'm in the AWDIWDTE "Anything Worth Doing Is Worth Doing To Excess" camp, except for food... 'cos then they need a crane to get you out of the house!

So three peeps entering a Subway, ordering 2 subs & sneaking in a craft beer (in a beer condom) is ES. Right?

Wagga, html allows <pre>...</pre> for preformatted text. But you MUST provide your own line breaks.

Bump. Acronyms are above.

"TLA" must be a wagga joke.

Need to add: FKT = Fastest known time
