Mt Whitney Zone Forums Thread Like Summary - Permit Aug 12 - 18th 5 People

Does anyone want this permit? Enter Onion Valley Aug 12th and Out Whitney Portal Aug 18th. I had planned to be out on the 17th but gave myself and son an extra day. I have to cancel by next week to get a refund but if you want it I can call and put your name on the reservation and you can pick up the permit(or get it mail to you I have no idea what they are doing now with Covid). Just thought I would post this in case someone needed it.

WP: I appreciate your intentions, but unless rules have changed this year, they don't allow adding alternate leaders to a permit after the permit is reserved. They do that to prevent scalpers from selling permits to the highest bidder. ...and unless things are different, you don't get a refund on your permit when you cancel. If things are not as I think they are, please write and let us know what works.

In the past, all you could do, (and I would urge you to do it) is log onto Recreation.gov and cancel the permit. Then the slots will show up (randomly in the next 24 hours) so someone else can reserve them.

Thanks Steve. As far as the refund is concerned I was going off the website. 30 days or so and you loose $6.50. I just talked with a reservation person and she said it looks like we can add a leader(she seemed very young FWIW). I just did not have anyone to add. Anyone that wants to give it a try I am game. Otherwise I will cancel next week.
