Except for the spin drift, and maybe the tents all dug in, it looks pretty nice from the pictures! What days were you up there? I noticed weather forecasts over this past weekend were for cold and occasional snow.

Also, what kind of boots did you wear for the trip?

Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was overcast and gradually got sunny. Strong winds that afternoon.

Sunday was very sunny, but again that fierce wind blowing down from the top. The wind was the only real problem.

I have a pair of Salomon insulated boots I use for winter hikes. Worked pretty good. Only time my feet felt cold is when I was sitting still and my feet were resting on snow/ice.

Nice photos!

How long did it take you to walk up to Helen Lake from Bunny Flat trailhead? Were there any drinking water along the way? Did you need to melt snow for water at Helen Lake?

8 Hours from Bunny Flat to Helen Lake.

Only water was the spring as Horse Camp.

Yes, at Helen Lake you have to melt snow for water. As far as I could tell, the lake was under the snow where they had the bathroom poles. smile

Ummm, how many hours did it takes you from Horse Camp to Lake Helen?
I will be driving from SFO around 10 am, and was planning to get up to Lake Helen the same day... Looks like I will be short on time, but staying at Horse camp will add extra pressure on summit day. Was Horse camp covered in snow too?

Some large patches of snow around Horse Camp, but mostly solid snow fields beyond Horse Camp.

Bunny Flat to Horse Camp was the easy part of the hike. Probably only 1.5 to 2 hours. So 6 hours or so from HC to HL.

Your mileage may vary. smile
