This from U.S. Forest Service - Inyo National Forest on Facebook: Inyo National Forest fire crews are assisting Cal Fire in the Lone Pine Fire. While this fire is not currently on forest land, there are closures in place due to the fire that are affecting access to forest lands.
At this time, the Lone Pine Campground has been evacuated. The Whitney Portal Road, the Horseshoe Meadow Road (at the Whitney Portal Road junction) and the Hogback Road are closed.
Visitors are advised to avoid this area to assist with fire response.

I just got back form the inter-agency visitor center to pick up my overnight permit for tomorrow. They told me that due to the fire they are not issuing permits until further notice. They told me currently the fire was 25 acres but they were concerned it might grow rapidly as it is very hot and dry in lone pine.
They took my name, reservation number, and phone number and told me they might give me a call if there is updated information but to check @MtWhitneyInfo on twitter for updated information.

Picture and text on Inyo N.F. Facebook page: A few more photos from the Lone Pine Fire by Matt Helt. The Whitney Portal campgrounds and the Whitney Portal Store, and residences at Whitney Portal have been evacuated by the Forest Service and Inyo County Sheriff's Office. The Lone Pine Campground remains evacuated and the Whitney Portal Rd and Hogback Rd are closed. The Meysan Lakes, Mt Whitney, and North Fork trailheads are within the closure area.

The fire is 50% contained, stopped at 30 acres.
All roads are open now.
