Whats your goto spot after topping out?

I generally don't stray from the Alabama Hills Cafe. Although recently found the tacos hermanos truck which was excellent. Any other suggestions?

Also, any recommendations on places open late? (I've found myself a couple times in the situation of having to scrounge at the Chevron station after coming down super late).

Just be sure you get down in time for one of Dougs burgers at the Whitney Portal Store:

In season the Portal Store for immediate therapeutic burgerdom, till 8 or so. If DOug does not feel like making an actual Mooseburger, just order the regular burger, double, with double bacon and double cheese, double fries. That's about a third of a Moose. In town, Pizza Factory, Seasons, Mt Whitney Restaurant, Tacos Hermanos truck may be the latest serving food. Next morning breakfast, Alabama Hills Cafe hands down.

For dinner, I like either Merry Go Round or Seasons. Seasons is the fanciest restaurant. But Merry Go Round has both an American menu (with steak, chicken, salmon) and a Chinese menu, and I have never been disappointed with the food. Plus the atmosphere is seriously fun.

Truth is, after climbing Whitney, just about any food is the best you've ever tasted.

The pizza place in Lone Pine is always good, too. Is it a Round Table?

This thread is actually making me hungry. All very good choices! I haven't tried the taco truck yet - I will the next time I'm out there.

But for me a Sierra hike isn't complete without a meal at the Bonanza. The Chile Verde dinner is that good.

On my last trip a few weeks ago, we had breakfast at the newer place next to the Dow Villa because it was open earlier than the Alabama Hills Cafe and we needed an early start. It was pretty good.

I second the Bonanza for Mexican food.

Season's is one of the best restaurants anywhere, in my book. The elk, lamb and steaks are fantastic. I have actually driven the 200 miles to Lone Pine just to eat there (OK, to see the awesome scenery too).

Have to agree with CaliHawk (and others). Seasons gets my vote.

After eating there a couple of times I became curious as to who would open such a restaurant in Lone Pine, so asked my server (Heidi) if the owner and chef were one in the same. Turns out that the chef is not the owner, but a local fellow that just enjoys cooking, and is very good at it.

I like to eat there prior to any big hikes, and enjoy a healthy meal with no heavy sauces, so ask Heidi if the chef could prepare my salmon with just lemon juice. No problem. Beautiful fillet of salmon, simply cooked with lemon wedge on the side. Most excellent! Side dishes/Veggies are also excellent.

Of course after the hike I go directly to the Portal for Chicken Sandwich with fries. And perhaps a side order of bacon:-)
