Hi Everyone. We will be doing a Day Hike on July 19th. I will be hiking with 3 of my sons (18, 16, 14), 2 brothers, a nephew (15), and a couple of friends. I have 15 permits but anticipate about 10 to the summit, the rest are going to go to Trail Camp.
Can't wait. Actually, can't believe I just wrote that. Last year, I day hiked to the Summit in early July and by the time I got down thought I'd never do it again. It was a long day through a lot of snow but it was an amazing experience. I summited with my oldest son and youngest brother who were both in much better shape than me but some how I was leading the way. They felt the affects of AMS much more than me. My 2 buddies turned around at Trail Crest due to one having a severe case of AMS --- but they are back to try again this year. Can't wait.
By the way, I read this board last year and it was extremely valuable in helping prepare. Thought I'd go ahead and join since it is such a great group.

Hey all! I have three openings available on my permit for June 15th. I will be at the portal on the 13th. As of now my plan is to camp at Outpost on the 14th and summit the 15th. Two others are supposed to be joining me at the portal. Reading this forum is part of my acclimatization process.
I'll be day hiking to the summit on July 31.
This will be my second time and the plan is exactly like past year. Going "solo hiking", 2 nights at Portal leaving 3 am.
I hope the bear who scared me last time at the parking lot be busy doing something else.

Day Hiking up on Tuesday 6/26 with my friend Chris, were camping on Monday 6/25 and heading out at 3am Tue morning!

I was able secure 2 day permits for Jul 6th. Hopefully I can meet folks from here on the trail.
We are staying at WP campground and plan to do acclimatization hike at HSM the previous day.

My several lottery itineries all got turned down which ended up not mattering because this past spring the Air Force decided to move me to Japan instead of back to California. On the bright side, I was able to pick up someones cancelled permit on rec.gov. I plan to solo hike on the 4th of July. So excited, only downside is that I really wanted to do this multi-day and enjoy myself. Not an option though because all my backpacking gear is in transit to Japan.

Due to a change I will not be hiking August 1st.  I have returned my permits to the system. I will attempt next year.

Time to check gear, July 18th is almost here! Returned on June 28th from a 4 day Black Canyon of the Colorado River Kayak Adventure, now on to Whitney. So far this summer has been great! But now I gotta get my aging butt up to the summit again :tired: We will be setting my wife and daughter up in our trailer at Boulder Creek RV on Sat the 14th, then getting dropped off at Portal Campground on the 17th with a 4am start time at the TH on the 18th. It's gonna be nice looking forward to the comforts of the trailer and pizza in town on our return on the 20th! :grin:
