Party of three. Myself, my daughter, and a family friend left the portal at 4:37 AM on Wed., June 20.
Perfect weather. None of us ever changed (added or subtracted) clothes. Not sure what the temp was at the portal, but even though it cooled off as we climbed our body heat compensated nicely. Later on the warming sun offset the altitude, so just perfect all day.
Entered the Whitney Zone at 6:20 AM,
on to Trail camp by 9:06 AM.
Leisurely 45 minutes for lunch and water refill, then off for the switch backs.
Trail Crest at 11:52.
We were in no rush. Many stops for pictures, and water, but our pace was good when walking. Once past Trail Crest our pace slowed a bit. My companions did not like the exposure on the back side, and exercised caution. Nonetheless, we were
atop the mountain at 2:02 PM.
Another leisurely session for photographs, and
left the top ~ 2:35 PM.
Another stop at Trail Camp for more water, and another lunch break, then onward to the portal. Decent was slow due to knee issues, but finally arrived back at the car at 9:15 PM. Long day, but all involved felt great about the experience.
